How to Layer Skincare Correctly

Why order affects performance.

Layering incorrectly can reduce product performance and increase peeling or irritation.

Follow this structure:

  1. Cleanser

  2. Toner or hydrating mist

  3. Serum

  4. Moisturizer

  5. SPF in the morning

General rule: apply from thinnest to thickest texture.

Allow 30–60 seconds between layers if products feel tacky. This prevents disruption of film-forming ingredients and improves absorption.

Avoid mixing high-strength actives unless instructed by a professional. Overlapping exfoliating acids or retinoids is a common cause of sensitivity.

Correct layering increases efficacy without increasing product quantity.
