The Skin Barrier Explained
Understanding the foundation of healthy skin and why protecting it changes everything.
Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin and its primary line of defence. It protects against environmental stressors, prevents water loss, and helps maintain overall balance. When functioning well, skin feels calm, hydrated, and resilient. When compromised, it may feel tight, reactive, or prone to breakouts.
The barrier is made up of skin cells bound together by lipids. When these lipids are depleted through over exfoliation, harsh cleansing, or environmental stress, the skin becomes vulnerable. Supporting the barrier through gentle cleansing, hydration, and simplified routines can restore comfort and strength.
Healthy skin is not built through intensity. It is preserved through protection.
